Future Kinesiologist & Exercise Physiologist

Moving well is the goal. My aim is to develop a team of inspired and passionate professionals. I plan to open a clinical practice & studio. In addition to clinical services, offering Pilates, Functional Strength & Conditioning, Mobility, Recovery & Yoga.

Using the principles of authentic and transformative leadership, I will develop excellence in my team. Leading with purpose, passion and integrity. Let’s move together towards a shared vision, a brighter and healthful future.

Highlights from my 25 year career in the fitness industry. My experience spans from coaching youth sports to managing group fitness and personal training, hosting yoga workshops and instructor education seminars.

First, studying to become a Physical Education teacher. Now, updating my education to become a Registered Kinesiologist and Business Leader.

Student practicums in: Physical Education, Coaching, Strength & Conditioning, Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology, Pilates & Yoga.

Highlights from my academic acumen. Including a VO2 lab report, Sports Nutrition Brochure, an Emergency Action Plan, Concussion Management Presentation, and a Leadership & Development Training Plan.

I began as an endurance athlete in high school, I was a runner and a skiier. I thought I was invincible, but I wasn't. After a fall skiing and multiple hip fractures, resulting in the loss of an athletic scholarship I decided to back away from competitive sports.
At the age of 18 I became a fitness instructor and personal trainer, certifying with CanFit Pro and CPTN. I moved to Toronto for work. I was inspired by a Chiropractor who specialized in Active Rehab, and a Physiotherapist who was teaching STOTT Pilates on the gym floor. Interested in learning more about rehabilitation I relocated to Vancouver to pursue an undergraduate in Exercise Science.
While I was a student, I had a baby girl and thought I would switch to Physical Education. That didn't quite work out as planned. So I continued to work in the Fitness Industry for another 10 years.
My daughter is grown now and I am a student again, updating my undergraduate coursework. I plan on completing a Post Grad Diploma in Kinesiology next year and becoming a Registered Kinesiologist and Exercise Physiologist.
With over 25 years of experience in the Health & Fitness Industry, I bring a level of maturity and leadership skills to my future career.
My intention is to inspire and motivate others to be the best version of themselves.
Influenced by my personal experience as a young competitive athlete, I became aware of an overarching issue – a lack of understanding in managing and preventing injuries. Hence, I am educating myself to be better equipped to do just that.
I plan to lead by example, and foster a culture of athleticism, camaraderie, and teamwork.
I want to develop a sense of purpose and a positive mindset in myself and others. I want to transform the way we train and recover. Stewardship is what I aspire towards.
I strive to be the kind of leader I wish I had as a young person. I plan to lead with empathy and compassion, ensuring that every individual feels valued and empowered to perform to the best of their ability. I believe that a shared vision, combined with high engagement and collaboration, empowers teams to achieve success. My aim is to create lasting positive impacts in the lives of those I serve and work with.

My 5-year plan is to own a clinical exercise studio - offering clinical exercise programs, assessments and individualized training plans. I will develop an online platform, with on demand videos and services from coaches & clinicians. The objective is to have a comprehensive approach to training and therapy, combined with accessible options for everyday life.
I am taking Business courses to help me develop technical skills for owning a studio, beyond the management and coaching skills I already possess. These courses include Leadership & Development, Writing & Designing Websites, Digital Marketing, Social Media & Brand Management, Bookkeeping & Accounting for small businesses. I plan to put these freshly learned skills to good use, pairing them with my passion for movement, health and longevity.
I am upgrading my undergraduate in Physical Education & Coaching, with a concentration in Kinesiology. Upon graduation, I am taking an extra semester of coursework and completing two professional fieldworks in Kinesiology. I will complete Jurisprudence and the exams necessary to become a Registered Kinesiologist in British Columbia.
While I complete my coursework in Kinesiology and Business, I am also studying for a comprehensive Pilates exam with clinical applications. I am completing a 500 hour Yoga Practitioner program to be able to host Yoga Teacher Trainings. I am planning on expanding beyond Kinesiology, and to train a team of Instructors to complement the clinical practice.

Combining Kinesiology and Pilates is brilliant. I've been fortunate to have the experience of learning how it its together. I’m excited to dive deeper into the clinical applications of Kinesiology through my education at Douglas College, including two Professional Practicums. These are part of the requirements in becoming a Registered Kinesiologist In British Columbia.

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be learning from seasoned Athletic Therapists, working with competitive athletes in Penticton. I am observing and learning a variety of applications, from table tests to functional movement patterning, progressions & regressions. It’s the difference between performing well in the short term and consistently showing up and excelling in the long term.

I love teaching Strength & Conditioning, especially to youth. It has been incredibly rewarding and meaningful to me. My hope is to transform the practice into a functional movement based approach. The combination of Athletic Therapy and Youth Strength & Conditioning is providing me with a wealth of knowledge, resources and ideas for the future. It’s been an enriching and empowering experience.

Certified in STOTT Pilates, I am focused on learning the various techniques and repertoire used today. I have been a student of Classical Pilates for years. I'm excited to share my knowledge with others. My next steps are the clinical applications of Pilates such as peripheral joint stabilization, and developing fascial strengthening and mobility programs.

Yoga is a lifelong passion of mine. Training the mind & the body, while regulating the nervous system. Breath is the foundation of life and all movement practices. I have taught multiple forms of yoga over the years. I am currently working on a 500 hour Yoga Practitioner certification, with the intention of hosting Yoga Teacher Training.

Cross-country skiing was my first love. It's a lifelong source of enrichment and cardiovascular fitness. I’ve instructed multiple ski seasons, spread out over time. I was a guide for blind cross-country skiers prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. I was blessed with the opportunity to coach at Sovereign Lakes, Canada’s Olympic Cross-Country training grounds, at Silver Star Mountain Resort. I’m excited to be taking my Level 2 CANSI training.
